Beer tasting event recap and another GIVEAWAY

25 Nov

On Friday, Alex and I were invited to a blind beer tasting event at our friend Ryan’s apartment. The rules were simple. Each person was to bring two 1 pint bottles of beer wrapped to conceal its identity. Additionally, the beers all had to be within the IPA, Stout or Christmas/Winter genres. The person who brings in the winning beer of each category gets a prize.

Our friend Ryan is no joke when it comes to beer so there was definitely a lot of pressure trying to select something the wouldn’t put us (and our somewhat lackluster knowledge of beer) to shame.

Let the games begin.

Raw Honey GIVEAWAY!!

13 May

Raw honey serves as a great alternative to sugar. It adds depth in flavor as well as nutritional value. However, like any fruit or vegetable eating honey “raw” ensures the preservation of important vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Most commercial honeys that you purchase at a typical grocery store it not raw. It has been pasteurized using high heat that kills a lot of the nutrients found in honey. According to Food Safety News (FSN), three-fourths of the honey sold in U.S. grocery stores isn’t really “honey”. In a recent study, FSN found that 76 percent of honey samples bought at grocery stores like Giant Eagle and Kroger had ALL of its pollen removed. And 100 percent of honey sampled from drugstores like Walgreens and Rite-Aid had no pollen. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), any product that has been so ultra-filtered and pasteurized that it no longer contains pollen isn’t considered to be honey. However, there isn’t much being done about the false labeling of these products. So it’s up to you to make the more informed choices.

Good Taste! Pittsburgh, win a FREE ticket

16 Apr

good-taste-pittsburgh-logoI am so excited to go to the Good Taste! Pittsburgh event this weekend.  I first heard about the event last year from my mother, owner of The Green Mango and The High Heeled Chef, who did a cooking demo there.  She said she had such a blast at the event, and loved seeing all of the great chefs and exhibits. I unfortunately did not attend last year.  It was probably due to a bridal show or some other wedding-related obligation because I honestly can’t think of why I would have missed it!

Good Taste! Pittsburgh will take place on April 20th from 10:00 am-5:00 pm at the Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry. It is an all-day event featuring celebrity chefs, wine tasting, food samplings, food activities for children, cooking demonstrations and the latest trends in kitchenware and cooking. I mean, what more can a foodie ask for?

We hope to see you all there this saturday! You will probably find Alex and I next to the wine and food samples.  I will try to make some Chew Me Blog t-shirts for us to adorn so you can easily spot us, but I can’t make any promises.

Fore more information about the event, go to I hope to see you there!
