Late night snacking in NYC

19 Jan

Alex and I decided to pack our bags and head out to The Big Apple for an extended weekend getaway. New York City is like the Mecca for foodies, and this pilgrimage has been well overdue.

Our goals for this food tour are:
1. Eat a slice of pizza everyday
2. Never eat at the same place twice
3. Go to every restaurant featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations series finale
4. Eat at Papaya Dog
5. Indulge in some late night street food

Game on.

After a short 45 minute flight, Alex’s friend John picked us up from the airport and took us to PJ Clarke’s for some burgers and beers. I got “The Cadillac”, and it was delicious!

The streets are filled with street cars called “The Halal Guys”. John claims this one on the corner of 53rd and 6th is the best of them all!!

We were taught that the only thing to really order at this establishment is the “combo”, whatever that is…

The combo is actually a platter of orange rice, chicken, lamb, lettuce and pita bread. It’s served with a mysterious white sauce (possibly ranch mixed with tzatziki) and hot sauce. Might not sound very appetizing but it was actually amazingly delicious!
